MEET THE TEAMS 2020

Team name: Guerreros de RodriGOD

Institution: Universidad de Costa Rica

Coach: Rodrigo Chaves

1. How did you (Coach) get involved as a coach for ICPC competitions? What year did you become involved as a coach?
I participated as a contestant in ICPC Regionals (2014, 2015, 2017) and in the 2018 ICPC World Finals. My first year as coach was 2016. Since 2018 I’ve continued to work as a coach.

2. What skills or strengths do you feel your team brings to the World Finals?

I think we have good chemistry as a team. We’ve enjoyed the whole process of training and competing towards the ICPC World Finals and we had a good time even with the natural stress of the ICPC Regional. I think good relationships between teammates are key for success.

3. Are there any obstacles your team has had to overcome?

It is hard sometimes to get time to train together since we all have different schedules and responsibilities, but overcoming this obstacles is just part of the process.

4. What talents do people on your team have besides programming?

We all like playing chess and are kind of experienced at it, counting several youth national championships and gold medals between us. Also, Kevin participates in math competitions for undergraduates. He has won medals at Iberoamerican and International competitions such as CIIM and IMC. Most of us like practicing sports such as weight lifting and swimming.

5. What do you do in a typical team practice session?

We try to solve past contests (either Regionals or World Finals). We read each problem and whenever someone finds an accessible one, we try to solve it. Also, we have a good atmosphere during the whole time so we enjoy the training and don’t feel it so heavy.

6. What’s your team’s secret for all sharing one computer efficiently

Almost always only one person is using the computer at a time, while the other 2 are thinking on the next problem.

Congratulations to this amazing team!!
