MEET THE TEAMS OF 2020
Team name: NCTU_TaNoShiI
Institution: National Chiao Tung University
Coach: Shi-Chun Tsai
1. At what age(s) did you begin programming?
The team members began programming from the ages of 12-16 years old.
2. How many teams have you (Coach) brought to the World Finals?
I’ve coached three teams reaching World Finals in 2002, 2003 and 2020.
3. How did you come up with your team name?
Our team name was assigned by previous NCTU world final teams. It is from the animation “Kemono Friends”, and it means “fun”.
4. What are your team members majoring in? How does that help them with programming?
All three members major in Computer Science. The core of the problems is mainly about algorithms, data structures, and mathematics, and those fields are pretty much addressed in Computer Science.
5. What do you do in a typical team practice session?
We mainly practice with past problem sets in CodeForces Gyms or related websites. We can compete with others from the scoreboards. Also, we learned a lot from the data sets and the editorials.
6. What type of problem do you think is the hardest, and why?
Topics in computational geometry. It is hard to deal with the precision problem. The floating-point numbers sometimes don’t have enough precision, and fractional numbers don’t have enough speed. In addition, there are often many corner cases in computational geometry. When our submissions are rejected, it is not easy to figure out which part is wrong.
This team is strategically preparing for success at the World Finals!
