1. Is there a person or story your team admires or looks to for inspiration?
The person behind much of the success that our institution has had in ICPC is Prof. M Kaykobad. He has been bringing BUET teams to ICPC since 1997 and received the Lifetime Coach Award last year. We have always looked up to him and undoubtedly he is the most inspirational figure for all young contestants in BUET as well as Bangladesh. Another person who inspired us a lot during our formative years is Mohammed Kaysar Abdullah, former lecturer at our department (and currently a Googler).
2. Does your team do any activities together outside of ICPC preparation?
We often go out to have food together. Our favorite food is pizza. We also play a lot of card games, such as Hearts and 29. Also, we take part together in various other programming related (voluntary) activities. For example, our coach Prof. Sohel Rahman is also involved in organizing Informatics Olympiad activities in Bangladesh and we are helping him by serving in the National Scientific and Technical Committees. This is quite an interesting exercise and experience for us as we are thus involved in preparing tasks for our next generation of competitive programmers and problem solvers in Bangladesh.
3. How did you (Coach) get involved as a coach for ICPC competitions? What year did you become involved as a coach?
I have been involved with ICPC activities (coaching and organizing) since I joined CSE, BUET as a lecturer back in 2002. And all these things happened under the guidance of and through the motivation from my mentor, Prof. Kaykobad. The programming contest activity in CSE, BUET is almost like a religion to the students and faculties involved. Those who are involved are involved with this passionately. I am no exception to that.
