1. Is there a person or story your team admires or looks to for inspiration?
We are huge fans of the team ‘Survivor’, our seniors who took part in the ICPC 2017 World Finals. They were our inspiration! Their qualification made us dream that one day we too can represent our institute as well as our country just like they did. That was all the motivation we needed.
2. How did you come up with your team name?
When we began competitive programming, our favorite data structures at that time were the Fenwick tree and the Segment tree. Some of our first interactions with each other were us discussing the functioning of these data structures.
It was something that brought us all together! Since we are quite fond of those times, we decided to go with a mix of ‘Fenwick Tree’ and ‘Segment Tree’ resulting in ‘fenmentTree’.
3. What’s your team’s secret for all sharing one computer efficiently?
As a team, we are quite cohesive. While each of us has various strengths and weaknesses, we share a clear common ground when it comes to our coding style. Due to this, it is quite simple for us to understand, debug and extend each others code. Through this, we unify our strengths and cover each other’s weaknesses.
4. How did you (Coach) get involved as a coach for ICPC competitions? What year did you become involve as a coach?
I got involved as a coach the very year that I joined IIT Indore, 2012. I always knew about this contest and the prestige associated with it. On joining IIT Indore I realized that there was immense talent in the students that should be positively exploited. That is when I decided to get involved as a coach.
5. How many teams have you (Coach) brought to the World Finals?
This would be the fifth time that a team that I have been involved with as a coach would be participating in the World Finals.
