MEET THE TEAMS 2020
Institution Name: Charles University in Prague
Team: MFF 1: Tři nerdi
Coach: Zdenek Dvorak
1. What’s your team’s secret for all sharing one computer efficiently?
Over the years, we have developed a highly optimized chair-swapping scheme which allows us to rapidly switch who’s coding. This saves us more than three seconds per contest.
2. How did you come up with your team name?
Tři nerdi means ‘three nerds’ in Czech, and it’s not hard to figure out what the origin of that name is.
3. At what age(s) did you begin programming?
Filip: I started at 14. I’m into competitive math and my friend told me competitive programming is similar, so I first started learning C++ specifically for competitions.
Richard: When I was 10. I first started programming in QBASIC, but luckily soon found out there are other, less pain-causing programming languages out
there.
Václav: I started coding in an educational language for children, Baltík, when I was about 9. My biggest project was a morse code translator which I wrote for a Baltík competition.
4. What talents do people on your team have besides programming?
Filip: Apart from my skills in programming contests and mathematics, I can play table tennis a little bit.
Richard: I have an admirable talent of leaving my things on trains, forgetting deadlines and always showing up late. Besides that, I like to play the piano, mostly jazz of all sorts.
Václav: I can play bass guitar. Also, know a Winnie the Pooh quote in Latin.
Well done, team “MFF 1: Tři nerdi”!
