Tomorrow is the big day, as contestants from six continents arrive in St. Petersburg to compete in this year’s ACM-ICPC World Finals sponsored by IBM.
Preparations for this year’s contest have taken more than a year, and involved a multi-national team from ICPC Headquarters, IBM, host St. Petersburg National Research University of Information Technologies, Mechanics and Optics, and from other corporations and universities around the world.
Today was a big work day, as the contest floor at the Jubilee Sports Palace changed from unorganized space into efficient work stations for 120 teams of three.
In addition to technical organization, other staff prepared bags of shirts, programs and information. Host volunteers also welcomed early arrivals at Pulkovo airport. Some teams like the University of Central Florida have arrived already.
Tomorrow is the official opening of the ICPC period. That’s when the teams, who have all defeated many other teams in regional contests around the world, register and are officially welcomed to the contest by IBM.
