A tough day of competition ended with St. Petersburg State University taking top honors in this year’s ACM-ICPC, sponsored by IBM and hosted by Ural Federal University.

The day began early, as ICPC Executive Director Bill Poucher led the teams in the tradition of touching the ICPC Trophy for good luck.

A grand entrance, to the strains of the ICPC Celebration and Fanfare by Robert Greenleaf, and things got underway.

It was a stressful contest for the participants, as both analysts and judges noted that this year’s problem set was extremely challenging. Over the course of the contest, 4 problems went completely unsolved.

Supporting the students were cheering sections both in the DIVS Palace of Team Sports and at home. ICPCLive, simultaneously broadcast in both Russian and English, gave fans inside information. But fans also made their own information, taking to social media to cheer for their teams.

The day ended with the IBM Celebration. There was a street fair with cotton candy and popcorn, chili dogs and Coca Cola, strolling jugglers and clowns and a chance for everyone to enjoy some relaxing with a rock band from Moscow. Check out this quick video of the fun.

If you are getting ready for next year’s regionals, see descriptions of how to approach some of the problems and many more videos from inside this year’s ICPC on our video channel. ICPCNews will see you in Morocco.
