MEET THE TEAMS OF 2020
Team name: TankCadets
Institution: Cornell University
Coach: Haobin Ni
1. Does your team do any activities together outside of ICPC preparation?
Yes, food, games, or just hanging out.
2. How did you (Coach) get involved as a coach for ICPC competitions? What year did you become involve as a coach?
I was an ICPC finalist in 2014 and 2016. Then I retired and have been serving as a coach since then.
3. Is there a contest problem your team is especially proud of solving? What insight helped your team create the solution?
Our team solves a problem, which is not solved by any other team during the contest, at the last minute during last year’s ICPC Greater New York Regional contest. We didn’t know whether the submission is accepted or not until the resolver showed it to be a correct attempt at the award ceremony. As the coach, I think the key is teamwork. All three members contributed to the algorithm/implementation of the problem.
4. How did you come up with your team name?
Our team is named “TankCadets”, which I think is probably a parody of my contest ID “TankEngineer”.
5. What do you do in a typical team practice session?
The team usually works on a prepared problem set together for 5 hours. Then we will have some discussions about the problems together. Later on, we work on some of the problems unsolved during the contest.
Wow! This team is preparing for success at this years World Finals!
