MEET THE TEAMS OF 2020
Team name: ICPCNextCentury
Institution: Damascus University
Coach: Saeed Sryheni
1) Is there a person or story your team admires or looks to for inspiration?
My team has always wanted to qualify for ICPC World Finals; especially one of our team members. His friends used to call him “World Finalist” before this season started because they had much belief in him, and knew he would become an ICPC World Finalist one day! At first I think it started as a joke, but with time passing and hard training the team managed to convert this into a reality.
3) At what age(s) did you begin programming?
My team started programming when they first started their university studies, except for one of our team members who started earlier because he always wanted to be an ICPC World Finalist and started training for this moment earlier.
10) How did you come up with your team name?
This is a funny story actually. One of the coaches in Damascus University named his codeforces account “RedNextCentury” because he was trying really hard to reach the red color on codeforces. This inspired my team who was trying really hard to reach world finals. They decided to name their team “ICPCNextCentury” in the memory of Joud Zouzou the father of “NextCentury” names.
11) What talents do people on your team have besides programming?
My team likes to play Water polo a lot, they even played it a lot before the Arabic regionals started. One of my team members has a special talent to shoot the ball so high, and practically send the ball up high to any tree nearby. We had a lot of fun in Arabic-CPC this year since the hotel already had a pool, and my team was able to practice the sport they liked the most before participating in the contest.
16) What’s your team’s secret for all sharing one computer efficiently?
I have always admired my teams ability to share one PC without fighting over it. I think this is because one of our team members is a great team leader and he nicely explains to other team member who should be using it now. If someone disagrees he usually says “Raeeh Ya Tabl”; It’s an arabic phrase which means “Take it easy”.
