Team name: Rock Lee do Pagode Namora D+

1. Is there a person or story your team admires or looks to for inspiration?

The character “Rock Lee”, from the manga series “Naruto”, has a great narrative arc that motivates them.

2. Does your team do any activities together outside of ICPC preparation?

They watch rap battles and eat Lamen.

3. How many teams have you (Coach) brought to the World Finals?

I have taken 2 teams since I started in 2014.

4. Is there a contest problem your team is especially proud of solving? What insight helped your team create the solution?

Problem D from the 2019 ICPC South America/Brazil Finals. They had a hard to code solution but only 10 minutes left in the contest, so they tried a randomized approach using withing an adaptation of a previous solution. It worked and guaranteed us a place in the World Finals.

5. How did you come up with your team name?

This team is a merger of two teams whose names can be roughly translated to “100% is Not Enough, Pagode Matters a Lot” and “Huh? Wanna Date Me?”. We mixed the names into “Pagode Dates a Lot” and added “Rock Lee” to make the beautiful name: “Pagode’s Rock Lee Dates a Lot”.

This team is bound for success at the World Finals this year!
